Margaret Duddy -User Group Leader Send User Group-related questions and suggestions to Margaret at magie@baadd.org.
About the Visual FoxPro Developer User Group The ADD Visual FoxPro User Group is one of the oldest application developer communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Many of the members of this User Group have been business system developers for almost two decades. While the growth of the other ADD SIGs can for the most part be credited to developers who have migrated into more recent tools and databases from the Foxpro community, members of this User Group continue to develop new applications with current versions, as well as maintain and extend legacy systems still running in older versions of this incredibly versatile and rich object oriented RAD data-centric platform. Peer support and developer interactive sessions, including presentations in all areas of development such as desktop, web, application development best practices and integration with third party toolsets and frameworks, have kept these professionals meeting regularly for almost twenty years.
Symmetry Corporation - Our Sponsor BAADD extends special thanks to Symmetry Corporation for their continued support of the Visual Foxpro User Group. Symmetry provides meeting space and audio visual equipment for the ADD VFP SIG meetings. Symmetry also generously provides refreshements at each meeting! Information about Symmetry is available on their website at http://www.symmetrydirect.com/ The VFP User Group meets on the third Thursday of each month, at Symmetry Corporation, 420 S. February 2008 Visual FoxPro Developer Meeting - COM, VFP and You
Thursday, February 28th at Symmetry Corporation, 420 S. Hillview, Milpitas, CA - 6:30pm to 9:30pm In February 2008 we are pleased to have our own Brian Knittel give us a Tutorial on using COM with VFP. The Component Object Model (COM) lets applications share objects on one computer, across a network, or across the Internet. COM can let FoxPro applications use objects exposed by applications such as Word and Excel. It can also let you package up functionality that you develop in FoxPro, and offer it to desktop and CGI applications. Brian's talk will give an overview of COM technology, and will give examples of its use with FoxPro.
The universe conspires. Once again we have slipped the meeting date to the 4th Thursday in the month - February 28th - due to holidays, meeting location availability and cosmic rays. Starting next month we'll be back on the schedule of the third Thursday of the month - promise!
The raffle item box is still well stocked for this meeting - prizes will be awarded at the break and you must be present to win. As always, our sponsor Symmetry Corporation will provide a sandwich/salad/?? of choice to everyone who RSVP's prior to 4pm on Thrusday, 2/28/07. January 2008 Visual FoxPro Developer Meeting
Thursday, January 24th at Symmetry Corporation, 420 S. Hillview, Milpitas, CA - 6:30pm to 9:30pm Welcome to 2008! To kick off the New Year, our January 2008 Visual Foxpro Developer Group meeting will take a Tour of Presentations from the Southwest Fox Conference 2007. As usual, there were amazing things demonstrated and reviewed at the conference. We will briefly review each presentation, determine which ones are the favorites, and then plan future meetings to delve into them in glorious detail. All of the presenters at the SW Fox Conference have graciously agreed to share the conference content with User Groups, and that includes the solutions they have built and the source code to go with them. August 2007 Visual FoxPro Develoepr Group - Sage PRO ERP - Thursday, August 30, 2007
Thursday, August 30, 2007 - 6:30 to 9:30pm at Symmetry Corp., 420 S. Hillview, Milpitas, CA For our August 2007 meeting, Sage will be doing a presentation on their Sage Pro ERP software. Written in Microsoft Visual Fox Pro and integrated with Microsoft SQL server, Sage Pro is equipped to meet small to mid-sized business processing demands for business information, from Sales to Receivables and Payables to Inventory. The demonstration will cover a quick introduction to the product, an overview of the modules, options and end-to-end products supported, data support features, customization, and reporting, with time for QA afterwards. Many of us remember the old SBT software - this is where it went and you'll see what its features have grown into, along with all the additional modules and capabilities available today. And since it is VFP, with full source code availability, it is an attractive alternative for supporting the unique business and future growth requirements that we often find we need to provide to our companies and clients. We have some pretty amazing Raffle items (Windows Vista Ultimate, among other things) for this meeting that will be awarded at the break. Please check our website at http:\\www.baadd.org for updates and additional details about the meeting. As always, our sponsor Symmetry Corporation will provide a sandwich/salad/?? of choice to everyone who RSVP's prior to 4:00pm, TODAY, Thursday, August 30th. Check out Subway's website at www.subway.com for available menu items. There will also be chips and a variety of drinks. Thanks in advance for getting your responses in early. Meetings are free for current ADD members, and $10 at the door for nonmembers. Please contact Margaret if interested in coordinating BART rides or to RSVP. Hope to see you there!

July 2007 Visual FoxPro Developer Group - Servoy, a VFP Alternative?
Thursday, July 19, 2007 - 6:30 to 9:30pm at Symmetry Corp., 420 S. Hillview, Milpitas, CA For July 2007, we are going do a little exploring into alternatives to FoxPro. While we all agree on the benefits of using VFP, the future of database development will most probably involve other platforms for many of us. In our meeting on Thursday, July 19th we will take a look at one of the alternatives that is available today. Yvo Boom and Scott Butler with Servoy (www.servoy.com) will conduct a Webinar session and show us the in's and out's of their product. Servoy is a cross-platform development and deployment environment entirely focused on maximizing productivity. Basically you do not have to code in Java (unless you want to) nor SQL (unless you want to). You can develop your applications 2-5 times faster than coding in plain Java and .NET. Our development environment is drag-and-drop based, they do all the "hard" SQL work (including data-binding), have built-in data-broadcasting, a zero deployment client, a HTTP- based server interface and much more. In addition to helping develop applications more quickly they will help reduce your maintenance costs while maximizing upgrade revenue. How? Using their zero deployment Smart Client (client/server) and/or their Web Client (100% HTML + CSS) you don't have to update the client software, and you can deploy your solutions from a single code-base! Raffle prizes will be awarded at the break. As always, our sponsor Symmetry Corporation will provide a sandwich/salad/?? of choice to everyone who RSVP's prior to 4pm on Thrusday, 7/19/07. Check out Subway's website at http:\www.subway.com for available menu items. There will also be chips and a variety of drinks.
